Sustainability at Egeplast

Sustainability plays a central role at egeplast. The development of products with a higher recycling content and the installation of a PV system are just some of the numerous initiatives and measures that are included in the sustainability report and have led to the EcoVadis ranking in silver. The focus is on the recyclable egeplast plastic pipe systems with a service life of more than 100 years, which are required for the infrastructure for clean drinking water and renewable energies.

The Goal: Future-Proofing

Sustainability is not a buzzword, but a necessary response to the challenges of our time. It requires us to harmonize economic, ecological and social aspects in order to secure the livelihoods for future generations. For egeplast, this means operating continuously, long-term and responsibly. The goal: to be “fit for grandchildren” – i.e. to act in such a way that future generations can also live in an intact world. Through sustainable action, egeplast secures its competitiveness and minimizes risks.

Sustainability at egeplast goes beyond environmental awareness, as it encompasses a holistic view of our actions and their impact. The principle of sustainability, which already applied to forestry in the Middle Ages – only cutting as much wood as can grow back – remains relevant, but is now being expanded to include social and economic dimensions, known as ESG (Environmental Social Governance).

Infrastructure for Clean Drinking Water and Renewable Energies

In order to meet these numerous challenges, the United Nations adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015. These goals are intended to support governments, civil society, business and science in promoting sustainable development. For companies like egeplast, this means that business processes must be constantly reviewed and egeplast products play a central role, as they are required for the infrastructure for clean drinking water and renewable energies.

Sustainability Report with mavue

To achieve the sustainability goals, several guidelines apply at European and national levels. One example is the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which obliges companies to report annually on their sustainability progress starting in 2025. These reports inform interested parties about the current status and development of the company and enable comparisons.

egeplast prepared for the requirements of the CSRD at an early stage and was supported by mavue. mavue offers an online tool that presents complicated regulations in an understandable way and automates the reporting process, while egeplast contributes practical experience and in-depth industry knowledge at the same time.

Comprehensive commitment to sustainability at egeplast

In addition, egeplast addressed resource- and energy-saving production at an early stage. The environmental management system has been externally certified and monitored since 2009, and the energy management system since 2012. Sustainability at egeplast is reflected in a variety of measures: the reduction of CO2 emissions, the minimization of waste, the reduction of water consumption and the increase in resource efficiency. In 2023, egeplast received a silver medal in the EcoVadis sustainability ranking. A recent employee survey revealed that these issues are also very important to employees. Their suggestions are valuable and help to further improve strategies and measures.
