The professional handling of major projects is becoming increasingly important given the large number of underground cable projects running simultaneously in the direct current sector. The ever-increasing route lengths, coupled with a simultaneous increase in the number of construction companies operating in joint ventures and – newly – in integrated project execution – require an immense amount of coordination. Intelligent control systems are indispensable here.

Amprion Underground Cable Route A-Nord
The Amprion underground cable route A-Nord is being constructed according to the Integrated Project Execution (IPA) model with a total of six construction companies and one planning office. The route length in Lower Saxony is approx. 140 km and is divided into three planning approval sections. At the same time, the DolWin4 / BorWin 4 underground cable route is being constructed in parallel. Mr. Robert Weßling has been commissioned with the technical management NDS for this area in the IPA project management team. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the route length is approx. 160 km and is also divided into three planning approval sections. Mr. Manuel Schneidereit holds the technical management NRW here in the IPA project management team.

Highest Demands on Planning and Logistics
A total of approximately 2,200 km of temperature-resistant PE-RT protection pipes for underground cable construction, in dimensions from d 250 to d 450 mm, will be installed along the route using various laying methods. To enable quick connections without additional work steps in open-trench construction, pipes with very high dimensional accuracy are manufactured and supplied by egeplast. The combination of push-fit and welded connections achieves an unprecedented speed in construction progress.
Through the early integration of egeplast into IPA’s intelligent control systems, precise planning of production and storage volumes is guaranteed.
The timely procurement or delivery of the required construction materials is essential for smooth construction progress. Since the installation of the underground cables delivered on large drums takes place at a later point in time, a conduit system must be set up as part of the civil engineering work.

Egeplast as an Experienced Partner
The parallel construction of several systems requires the timely provision of empty pipes in previously unprecedented quantities on a route length of approx. 300 km with a total of approx. 35 installation sites. High-performance manufacturers of pipe systems with corresponding experience in the production, storage and logistics of large pipe quantities are in greater demand here than ever before.
Many years ago, egeplast took on this challenge and implemented all necessary measures to meet the requirements. egeplast acquired and installed a high-performance extruder at its Greven site, and additional storage areas were prepared. To deliver the pipes and fittings just in time directly to the underground cable route, truck capacities were ordered in advance. A dedicated and committed internal sales team ensures the smooth processing of business.
Manuel Schneidereit, Technical Director A-Nord NRW: “Due to the very positive experiences with egeplast in Amprion projects over the past years, we are pleased that we can continue the trusting and cooperative partnership in the A-Nord project. Furthermore, the local proximity of the Greven site to the route, with its corresponding storage facilities, is an undeniable advantage for flexible and timely delivery.”
