To ensure the supply and disposal services for the Lehnitz district of Oranienburg, a rapidly developing district town north of Berlin, the municipal utility company crossed under the Oder-Havel Canal with ten pipelines at once. The culvert was installed using the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) method at a cost of approximately half a million euros, including all connections.
A new high-pressure gas pipeline with an operating pressure of up to 16 bar was installed for the gas supply. The egeplast HexelOne® SLM high-pressure pipe system was used for this purpose. It is a DVGW-certified, self-reinforced high-pressure pipe made of PE. The reinforcement allows for permissible operating pressures of 16 bar for gas and 30 bar for water. Thanks to its protective jacket and inner layer made of PE 100-RC, it is also suitable for trenchless installation. This means that the advantages of flexible polyethylene plastic pipes for trenchless installation techniques can also be utilized for high-pressure pipelines. Due to the customized delivery lengths of up to 145 m as coils, only a single pipe connection was required in the culvert area.

The egeplast HexelOne® SLM pipe is a self-reinforced high-pressure pipe, a monocomposite made solely from polyethylene.
This reinforcement enables new areas of application in the “raised pressure” range, i.e., operating pressures above the applications previously covered by PE pipes.
The reason: It exhibits twice the strength compared to previous PE pipes.
