The new leak-monitored sewage pressure pipeline at the Söse Dam, which was intended to replace the old asbestos cement sewer, had to be routed through Class I and II drinking water protection zones. For the new installation, which covered a total length of 4,500 m, the egeplast egeSmart:Leak Control 3L system was used—a 100% leak-monitored pipe system. The installation was largely carried out using the static pipe bursting method.

Harzwasserwerke, as one of the largest water suppliers in Lower Saxony and operator of several dams in the Harz region, is also primarily responsible for the sewage pipelines located at the dams. At the Söse Dam, an old DN 200 asbestos cement sewer now had to be renewed. The planned new construction of the leak-monitored sewage pressure pipeline at the Söse Dam was an ambitious undertaking, primarily because the sewage must be routed through Class I and II drinking water protection zones. Accordingly, the decision was made to use 100% leak-monitored shaft systems, such as valve chambers and aeration and venting shafts. The egeplast 3L Leak Control pipes, together with the matching shaft systems, were able to meet the high requirements for the sewage pipeline to be installed. A total of 4,500 m of pipeline was newly laid. The installation took place in sections, with 3,800 m using the static pipe bursting method and 700 m using open-cut construction.

The construction period lasted over three years. To ensure the smooth progression of this complex construction project, several measurements were taken following the initial site briefing to continuously document damage-free installation. After final acceptance, the system was put directly into operation to enable continuous monitoring from then on.
