Leakage-monitored Wastewater Pressure Pipeline at the Söse Dam

The new leakage-monitored sewage pressure pipeline at the Söse Reservoir, which was intended to replace the old asbestos-cement sewer, had to be routed through Class I and II drinking water protection zones. For the total of 4,500 m of new installation, the egeplast egeSmart:Leak Control 3L system was used—a 100% leakage-monitored pipe system. The installation was largely carried out using the static burst lining method.

"For crossing drinking water protection zones of classes I and II, the 100% monitored egeSmart:Leak Control 3L was required."
Benedict Mahler

Harzwasserwerke, as one of the largest water suppliers in Lower Saxony and operator of several dams in the Harz region, is also primarily responsible for the sewage pipes located at the dams. At the Sösetal dam, an old asbestos cement channel DN 200 now had to be renewed. The planned new construction of the leak-monitored sewage pressure pipeline at the Sösteal dam was an ambitious undertaking, above all because the sewage has to be routed through drinking water protection zones of classes I and II. Accordingly, the focus was on the use of 100% leak-monitored shaft systems such as valve shafts and ventilation and de-aeration shafts. The egeplast 3L Leak Control pipes, together with the matching shaft systems, were able to meet the high requirements for the sewage pipe to be laid. A total of 4,500 m of pipe were newly installed. The Installation was carried out in sections, 3,800 m using the static burstlining method and 700 m using the open-cut method.

The construction period spanned over three years. To ensure the smooth execution of this complex construction project, several measurements were taken after the initial site briefing to continuously document a damage-free installation. Following final acceptance, the system could be put directly into operation to enable continuous monitoring.
