egeplast and Pipelife Norway have entered into a cooperation for the SLA® Barrier Pipe. The agreement applies to the Norwegian market and offers significant advantages to customers. Pipelife is setting up a large warehouse for SLA® Barrier Pipes at its production site in Stathelle (Southern Norway). Full truck transports can reduce freight costs to Norway, and small quantities can be delivered economically and promptly from the Norwegian warehouse to municipalities in Norway.
“We are finally looking forward to complementing our product range for PE piping systems,” says Jan Kenneth Bartolo, Pipelife expert and project engineer. egeplast’s Permeation-resistant piping system will soon be available from stock at Pipelife in Stathelle. “The trend towards Permeation-resistant piping systems is increasing in both Norway and Europe, and we expect rising sales,” says Raymond Molund, Sales Manager for egeplast in Norway.
What does this mean for customers?
Customers in Norway will benefit from a wider range of PE plastic pipes for their projects, including Permeation-resistant pipe systems, and Pipelife has a large sales team. Since the pipe system will be stored in Stathelle, logistics will also be significantly simplified. Shorter and faster transport to customers will reduce transport costs. Furthermore, Pipelife plans to offer special orders for Permeation-resistant pipes and fittings, as a new welding workshop was commissioned last autumn.

What are Permeation-resistant piping systems and when should they be used?
Clean drinking water should be transported to all people, regardless of whether they live in densely populated areas or remote regions. Water piping systems are located in various soil types. If the soil is heavily contaminated, the drinking water must be protected from the penetration of pollutants through the pipe wall. A Permeation-resistant pipe then prevents contaminants and chemicals from entering and affecting water quality through odor, taste, or other impurities.
If the soil is not heavily contaminated, there is no immediate need for this type of protective pipe for water lines, but it is observed that the trend towards Permeation-resistant pipes is increasing. This is because several municipalities in densely populated areas mandate Permeation-resistant pipes and have included this in their standard specifications. Molund explains this by stating that the lifespan of underground pipelines is more than a hundred years, and many municipalities want to play it safe regarding future soil contamination. The economic aspect is significant, as it is very costly to excavate piping systems before the end of their service life.
Permeation-resistant pipes can also be used where contaminated water is to be transported. In such cases, the aim is to prevent contaminants from the water from entering the soil. This is particularly important in industrial contexts.
Barrier Pipes
egeplast has been manufacturing the Permeation-resistant SLA® Barrier Pipes since 1985. Production takes place in Greven, Germany. They are approved by Nordic Poly Mark and DK-Vand.
