egeplast SLA® in Grenchen: Section of Drinking Water Supply Successfully Rehabilitated

In Grenchen, Switzerland, another rehabilitation of the drinking water pipes took place. In order to guarantee the protection of the drinking water, the client SWG relied on egeplast SLA® Barrier Pipe pipes.

In Grenchen in the Swiss canton of Solothurn, the next and fourth section of the comprehensive and long-term rehabilitation of the drinking water pipes was successfully completed in the summer. The starting point for this long-term project was an outdated concrete pipe, with which a reliable supply could no longer be guaranteed in the foreseeable future. In this case, pulling new PE pipes into the old pipe was the simplest, fastest and cheapest solution. However, the remaining cavities in which water can collect and become contaminated can be problematic in such projects. In order to prevent the risk of drinking water contamination, SWG decided to use diffusion-tight pipes from egeplast. The SLA® Barrier Pipe system reliably prevents the permeation of pollutants and has already proven itself in this project in the previous sections.

With the new section, the length of the pipelines rehabilitated to date increases to 3.4 km. However, it will still take some time until the completion of the entire 22.7 km construction project, as, according to the current schedule, the rehabilitation of the drinking water pipelines will be completed in 2038. In addition to the water pipeline, 3 cable protection pipes will also be installed to later accommodate the control and communication cables.

"To protect the drinking water, SWG opted for the SLA® Barrier Pipe System."
