To accelerate broadband expansion, a VDE guideline will outline uniform material requirements for the expansion of fiber optic networks starting in 2023.
Many different market participants are involved in broadband expansion. When components have cross-manufacturer functionalities, they must be compatible. For this purpose, the Association of German Electrical Engineers (VDE) established a working group in April 2020, which is developing a guideline with appropriate standards.
This guideline provides a material concept for operators of public fiber optic networks, describing a uniform technical framework for the expansion of fiber optic networks. It specifies in detail components such as PoPs (Point of Presence), shafts, cable protection pipes, connection accessories, fiber optic cables, microducts, and other components. Experts from professional associations, consultants, civil engineering companies, and manufacturers of relevant network components are involved in its development. egeplast participates in this expert panel as a manufacturer of microducts and advocates for the quality and longevity of the products.
With the publication of the new guideline planned for early 2023, a suitable basis will be provided for the rapid establishment of high-performance and future-proof fiber optic networks.
