SLA® Barrier Pipe meets the highest requirements in contaminated soils

SLA® Barrier Pipes are now also KIWA-certified for heavily contaminated Class III soils. The SLA® Barrier Pipe with an aluminium barrier layer meets the stringent requirements of the BRL 17101 standard applicable in the Netherlands, which has now been updated and revised by KIWA. As a result, SLA® Barrier Pipes, as the only pipe to date with this approval, may now also carry certification for heavily contaminated Class III soils. The protective jacket pipe system reliably prevents the permeation of pollutants and is therefore certified by KIWA Nederland B.V. as a PE piping system with an aluminium barrier layer for the transport of drinking water. Damage-free installation of the pressure pipe in trenchless pipe laying, such as horizontal directional drilling, is achieved by the special additive protective layer.

The BRL 17101 standard regulates requirements for drinking water pipes that may also be installed in contaminated soils. Recently, BRL 17101 has also defined requirements for pipes for the highest contamination class. This Class III describes contamination up to the saturated solution of toxic aromatic hydrocarbons in the soil surrounding the pipe. KIWA’s task in the Netherlands is to ensure the quality of drinking water and to monitor all products that come into contact with it.
