Welded pipe systems made of polyethylene
Polyethylene pipes and fittings can be joined using thermal or mechanical methods. The most important thermal methods are butt fusion welding and electrofusion welding. Welded pipe systems are absolutely leak-proof and do not require any additional sealing elements.
The most important method for joining PE-HD pipes is butt fusion welding. For this, after appropriate preparation (cleaning and facing the pipe ends), the surfaces to be joined are brought to welding temperature with a heating element. The plasticized pipe ends are then pressed together under pressure after the heating element is removed. The welding process follows defined procedural steps documented in DVS 2207.
Push-fit and compression fitting techniques are mechanical connections primarily used for domestic connections.
