Welded pipe systems made of polyethylene

Pipes and pipeline components made of polyethylene can be joined together using thermal or mechanical methods. The most important thermal methods are heated tool butt welding and electrofusion welding. Welded pipe systems are absolutely leak-tight and do not require any additional sealing elements.

The most important method for joining pipes made of PE-HD is heated tool butt welding. In this process, the joining surfaces are brought to welding temperature using a heating element after appropriate preparation (cleaning and facing the pipe ends), and the plasticised pipe ends are then joined together under pressure after the heating element has been removed. Welding is carried out according to defined process steps, which are documented in DVS 2207.

Push-fit and compression joining techniques are mechanical joints that are predominantly used for domestic service connections.
