History

In 1908, Engelbert Gröter founded his jute spinning works in Emsdetten. This pioneer’s initials are still found today in our company name. Confronted with ever-raising imports of jute from the low-wage countries of India and East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh), production was changed from jute to sisal carpeting in 1955. The company started production of plastic pipes, under the egeplast-Kunststoffe GmbH name, in 1958, just fifty years after its foundation. The reasons for this change are to be found in the desire to concentrate on a growth market. egeplast was one of the first German companies to manufacture hula-hoops, in the autumn of 1958, shortly after they came into fashion. The company’s head quarters remained at Emsdetten until the year 2000.

Relocation to our present premises at Greven followed in the same year, after completion of Europe’s most modern PE piping plant.
