In view of the large number of simultaneous underground cable projects in the direct current range, professional handling of large-scale projects is becoming more and more important. Ever-longer cable runs with an increasingly large number of building contractors and new – in integrated project management – involved in working communities require immense coordination efforts. In this context, smart control systems are indispensable.
„In view of the excellent experiences we have had with egeplast in the context of Amprion projects over the past few years, we are pleased that we will also be able to continue our cooperation built on trust and partnership for project A-Nord.“
Manuel Schneidereit, Technical Manager A-Nord NRW
Amprion underground cable route A-Nord
The Amprion underground cable route A-Nord is being implemented according to the Integrated Project Management (IPA) model with a total of 6 construction companies and a planning office. The route in Lower Saxony is approx. 140 km long and is divided into three planning approval sections. Simultaneously, the parallel DolWin4 / BorWin 4 underground cable run is being established. Mr. Robert Weßling has been entrusted with the technical management NDS for this area in the IPA project management team. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the route is approx. 160 km long and has also been subdivided into three planning approval sections. Manuel Schneidereit is the technical manager for NRW in the IPA project management team.
Highest demands on planning and logistics
All in all, approx. 2,200 km of temperatureresistant PE-RT protective pipes for underground cable construction with dimensions ranging from d 250 to d 450 mm have been installed using various installation methods. With a view to being able to implement fast connections using the open-trench installation method without any additional working steps, egeplast manufactures and supplies pipes with a high dimensional accuracy. A combination of plug and welded connections will help to achieve a previously unheard-of speed of the construction process.
Early involvement of egeplast in the smart control systems of the IPA guarantees precise planning of production and stock quantities.
To guarantee a smooth construction process, timely procurement or delivery of the required construction materials is tremendously important. Since the underground cables supplied on large drums are only installed later, a system of empty ducts must be prepared over the course of the civil engineering works.
egeplast as an experienced partner
The parallel construction of multiple systems requires on-time provision of empty ducts in quantities which never occurred so far on a route measuring approx. 300 km in length with a total of approx. 35 installation sites. The demand for high-performing manufacturers of pipe systems with the required expertise in manufacturing and storing large pipe volumes as well as handling them logistically has become bigger than ever.
As early as many years ago, egeplast begun to respond to this challenge, taking all necessary measures to meet the relevant requirements. The company procured a high-performance extruder and installed it on its premises in Greven and additional warehouse facilities were prepared. To facilitate just-in-time delivery of the pipes and moulded parts straight to the underground cable route, truck capacities were secured sufficiently in advance. A dedicated and committed internal sales team ensures a smooth processing of the deal.
Manuel Schneidereit, the Technical Manager for A-Nord NRW commented: “In view of the excellent experiences we have had with egeplast in the context of Amprion projects over the past few years, we are pleased that we will also be able to continue our cooperation built on trust and partnership for project A-Nord. Moreover, the spatial proximity of the Greven site to the pipe route and the resulting storage options are an advantage for flexible and timely delivery which should not be underestimated.“
