Sustainability at egeplast
For egeplast, sustainability plays a central role. Developing products with a higher percentage of recycled material and the installation of a PV system are just some of the numerous initiatives and measures which are reflected in the sustainability report and have led to egeplast having been awarded silver in the EcoVadis ranking. At the centre of all of this are the recyclable egeplast plastic pipe systems which provide more than 100 years of useful life and are needed to create the infrastructure for clean drinking water and renewable energies.
The Goal: Grandchildness
Far from being a mere catch phrase, sustainability is a necessary response to the challenges of our time. It requires us to reconcile economic, ecological and social aspects for the sake of securing the livelihoods of future generations. For egeplast, this means sustainable management on an ongoing and long-term basis. Our goal is to do justice to our grandchildren – in other words, to act in a way which will also allow future generations to live in an intact world. Acting sustainably ensures egeplast’s competitiveness and minimises risks.
Sustainability at egeplast goes beyond environmental awareness. It involves a holistic assessment of our actions and their consequences. The principle of sustainability, which was already applied in medieval forestry and implied not harvesting more timber than could be regrown, continues to be relevant, although nowadays with added social and economic dimensions known as ESG (Environmental Social Governance).
Infrastructure for clean drinking water and renewable energies
To encounter these numerous challenges, the United Nations adopted the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, (SDGs) in 2015. These goals are meant to support governments and civil societies as well as the economy and science in promoting sustainable development. For companies such as egeplast, this implies the need to constantly reassess our business processes. The egeplast products play a central role in this context, since they are indispensable for the infrastructure required to deliver clean drinking water and renewable energies.
Sustainability report with mauve
To ensure that the sustainability goals are achieved, there are some guidelines which need to be respected on the European and national levels. One example would be the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which obliges companies to provide annual reports about their progress in the field of sustainability from 2025. These reports provide the interested parties with information on the current state of affairs and the development achieved by the company, thus facilitating comparison.
egeplast has been preparing for the CSRD requirements from an early stage, supported by mauve. Mavue provides an online tool which presents complicated regulations in an easily comprehensible manner and serves to automate the reporting process. At the same time, egeplast contributes practical experience and in-depth industry know-how.
Comprehensive commitment for sustainability at egeplast
Furthermore, egeplast began to focus on resource- and energy-saving production from early on. The egeplast environmental management system has been certified and monitored by a third party since 2009, and the egeplast energy management system since 2012. The commitment to sustainability shown by egeplast is reflected in a wide range of measures: reduction of CO2 emissions, minimizing of waste, lowering water consumption and increasing resource efficiency. In 2023, egeplast was awarded a silver medal in the EcoVadis sustainability ranking. A recent poll among employees revealed that these issues are also deemed very important among them. Their suggestions are valuable and support the ongoing further improvement of the strategies and measures applied.
