egeplast SLA® in Grenchen: Section of drinking water pipeline successfully refurbished
In Grenchen, Switzerland, another section of the municipal drinking water pipeline system underwent refurbishment. To ensure the protection of the drinking water, the client, SWG, opted in favour of egeplast SLA® Barrier Pipes.
This summer, the next (the fourth) section of the comprehensive and multi-year refurbishment of the municipal drinking water pipes was successfully completed in Grenchen, in the Swiss canton of Solothurn. The baseline situation for this long-term project was an obsolete concrete pipeline which was no longer suitable to provide reliable for the foreseeable future. In this scenario, inserting new PE pipes into the old pipeline was the simplest, fastest and most cost-efficient solution. What can be problematic with these kinds of projects, however, are the residual cavities in which water may collect and become contaminated with germs. To avoid the risk of drinking water contamination, SWG therefore opted in favour of impermeable pipes manufactured by egeplast. The SLA® Barrier Pipe System reliably excludes any permeation of harmful substances and has already stood the test in this project for the previous sections.
Adding with the new section, the already refurbished pipelines has come to reach 3.4 km in length. It will be some time until the construction project, which comprises a total of 22.7 km, will have been completed. According to the current schedule, the construction measures will have been completed in the year 2038. Besides the water pipeline, 3 cable conduits were pulled in which will be used later to insert the control and communications cables.
“To protect the drinking water, SWG opted for the SLA® Barrier Pipe System.”
