Lower susceptibility to damage in the event of landslides
Their high degree of flexibility makes PE pipes less susceptible to damages caused by landslides which often occur in flooded areas.

Droughts, floods and other extreme weather events have come to present ever-new constant challenges to us, as egeNews reported in issue 11/2022. Along with this, safe transportation of drinking and waste water has become more complex and susceptible to failures. With its smart pipe systems SLA® Barrier Pipe, SLM® DCS, and 3L Leak Control, egeplast provides reliable solutions.
Prolonged dry periods aggravate the already tense situation around water availability. According to estimates provided by the International Water Association (IWA), 346 million m³ of drinking water are lost every day. Water is our most vital resource, the significance of which will keep increasing further in the future, which underlines just how important it is to protect this resource – among other things via safe drinking water pipelines.
In addition, flood events pose extreme challenges to underground infrastructures. In this year alone, Germany has already seen three so-called “historic floodings”. Consequences resulting from the latter, such as landslides and soil contamination, expose pipeline networks to major risks and increase the danger of leakages and structural damages, which in turn can endanger water quality. Extreme conditions of this kind require robust and reliable systems able to withstand the increased stressors.
Any investment into impermeable and/or monitored pipe systems is an investment into safety, sustainability and environmental protection. Thanks to their extremely long useful life and reliability, egeplast pipe systems contribute to preserving the long-term value of the infrastructure. This way, local authorities and municipalities can ensure that their water and supply networks will keep functioning reliably even under extreme conditions.
