Sewage pressure pipeline with leakage monitoring at the Söse Dam
The new sewage pressure pipeline with leakage monitoring at the Söse Dam meant to replace the previous asbestos cement canal. The pipeline had to be installed through class I and II drinking water protection zones. Against this background, the egeplast 3L Leak Control System with 100 percent leakage monitoring was selected for the newly installed pipeline featuring a total length of 4,500 m. Most of the installation was performed using the static burst lining method.
“For the crossing of drinking water protection zones class I and II the 100% monitored 3L Leak Control was required.”

Harzwasserwerke, one of the biggest water suppliers in Lower Saxony and the operator of several reservoirs in the area, is also the main party in charge of the sewage pipelines at the reservoirs. At the Söse Dam, an old DN 200 asbestos cement canal needed to be rebuilt. The planned construction of the new sewage pipeline was an ambitious project mainly because the sewage needs to be discharged through class I and II drinking water protective zones. Accordingly, the customer opted in favour of shaft systems such as fitting shafts and aeration shafts with 100 percent leakage monitoring. The egeplast 3L Leak Control pipes, combined with the matching shaft systems, met the high requirements related to the sewage pipe to be installed. All in all, 4,500 m of new pipeline were installed. The installation was performed in sections, 3,800 m applying static burst lining and 700 m using the open-trench method.
The construction period of the new pressure pipeline with leakage monitoring at the Söse Dam extended over more than three years. To facilitate smooth operations for this complex construction measure, several subsequent measurements were performed after the initial on-site instructions to ensure an ongoing documentation of damagefree installation. After the final acceptance, the system was ready for commissioning and able to allow for continuous monitoring.
