SLA® in Norway: Rehabilitation of the main water supply from Stavanger city to Hundvåg district
To ensure a clean drinking water supply for the 14,000 inhabitants of Hundvåg district, the rehabilitiation of the main water pipe was necessary. The municipality opted for the diffusion- tight egeplast SLA® Barrier Pipe, which was planned to be laid through an existing cast iron pipe, but ended up in an open trench installation.
Demanding ground conditions
Starting at the intake sump at the quay in the west, the connection was made to the existing underwater pipe from the City of Stavanger and then continued along Ulsnesveien. With the last 708 m, this important renovation measure was hereby completed.
This project was particularly challenging due to the difficult ground conditions, which were characterized by the remains of walls and buildings. For this reason, the original construction plan of pipe-bursting through the existing 450 mm cast iron pipe had to be converted to an open trench method.
Specification: Diffusion-tight pipelines
As diffusion-tight pipes are required by the municipality for projects below certain height curves, the decision was made to use the egeplast SLA® Barrier Pipe, which has been used by the City of Stavanger for many years and has already proven itself in various projects. In order to ensure a smooth process and optimal installation, close cooperation was maintained with egeplast.
Kine Homleid Johansen, project manager in the municipality of Stavanger, appreciates the high quality of the training and service provided by egeplast: “The constant exchange and close cooperation in all project phases give us a feeling of security in the joint projects. We are grateful for the excellent cooperation and would work with egeplast again at any time.“
Sondre Dammen, Head of the NoDig department at Steg Entreprenør, the construction company responsible for supplying and welding the pipes, has a similar conclusion. After various burst lining projects in Norway and Sweden and many kilometers of laid egeplast pipes, he summarizes the cooperation as follows: “We have great confidence in egeplast and we are always very satisfied not only with the service, but above all with the great flexibility with which quick solutions are always found easily.“
