More rapid network expansion based on uniform standards: Guideline for FTTX-Broadband Networks
To expedite the broadband expansion, a VDE guideline will describe uniform material requirements for the expansion of fibre-optic networks from 2023.
Many different market participants are involved in broadband expansion. For manufacturer-independent functionalities of components, the latter need to be compatible. With this in mind, the Association of German Electrical Engineers (VDE) established a task force as early as in April 2020 to work on a guideline which will set the relevant standards.
This guideline is to provide operators of public fibre-optic networks with a material concept providing a unified technical framework for the expansion of fibre-optic networks. It will specify in detail components such as PoPs (Points of Presence), manholes, cable protection pipes, connection accessories, fibre-optic cables as well as Microducts and other components. Experts from trade associations, appraisers, civil engineering companies as well as manufacturers of the relevant network components are involved in drawing up the guideline. egeplast is involved in this round of experts as a manufacturer of micro pipes advocating for a focus on product quality and durability.
The release of the new guideline scheduled for the beginning of 2023 will provide an appropriate basis for fast establishment of high-performance and sustainable fibre-optic networks.
