Successful start for new pipe production facility in England

On 10th April 2019, egeplast UK Ltd successfully commissioned a state-of-the-art polyethylene pressure pipe manufacturing unit in the United Kingdom making further progress in the international growth of the egeplast business. This new facility will enable egeplast partners and customers to benefit from improved flexible, efficient and fast delivery of both drinking and waste water pipes, including UK manufactured coiled pipes up to 180mm OD. The launch of egeplast UK production will deliver notable advantages with regard to freight costs and storage, as well as allowing egeplast to significantly reduce its carbon footprint through the reduction of long-haul transportation and therefore reduced carbon monoxide emissions. In addition to this, the new manufacturing unit in the UK enables egeplast to more effectively manage the supply chain and potential risk of delays associated with Brexit.

This progressive step towards international business was received by all egeplast staff with enthusiasm, and the collaboration between German and UK staff was a great success resulting in the completion of the new production facility in only nine months. Manufacturer and Supplier of the Production Line, Krauss Maffei, played a critical role in ensuring a punctual launch of operations having effectively resolved a few initial challenges in the design and construction phase. The project was completed efficiently and professionally and followed up with excellent post installation Support

The new manufacturing site contains state-of-the-art engineering while an integrated system enables the Technical and Quality Teams at egeplast in Greven to provide their expertise in monitoring and releasing product. Customers can therefore expect the same high-quality products from egeplast UK that they have grown accustomed to receiving from egeplast Germany. In May 2019, the energy efficient, modern design of the new production line was endorsed by SKZ Cert GmbH following an independent audit in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14001 Environmental Management and DIN EN ISO 50001 Energy Management for egeplast international GmbH.
In addition, the new team at egeplast UK Ltd underwent extensive training at the ‘egeAkademie’ in Greven to ensure the highest standard of production operations were implemented to conform with the requirements of egeplast Germany and, following this, the initial Production Line start-up in Doncaster was supported by two experienced members of staff from the plant in Germany. As a result, the first deliveries of product complying with British standards have already been made and routine operations to manufacture all planned pipe dimensions commenced in June 2019. Distribution of all products will be handled by Westwood Pipelines (GB)

The successful completion of the project was celebrated on 14th June 2019 when Production responsibility was officially handed over to Steven Jones, Managing Director of egeplast UK Ltd and his UK Team. Dr. Ansgar Strumann, Managing Director of egeplast reflected; ‘For us, as a family business with more than 110 years of production in Munsterland (Germany), this is an incredibly special moment. We see that further international growth is the best way in which to strengthen the business and provide the best service possible to our international customers.
